Legal Battles

The current situation in the Venices is such that, in most cases, improvements in public services can be achieved only by undertaking legal battles.

Confederazione Veneziana has set up its own legal support teams, formed by highly experienced and successful lawyers and professional consultants, in order to support and carry forward CV's court battles.
So far, we have tackled many issues on behalf of all citizens; some cases we lost, many more we won. Below is a summary of our latest efforts. Please contact us if you wish to find out more about any of our court cases.

Court cases/appeals presented or in execution:

  • Drainage Consortia (Consorzi di Bonifica): court case against the Brentelle Consortium was successful. Appeal against the Bacchiglione / Brenta Consortium is currently being considered by the Court in Venice;

  • Tax on Buildings (I.C.I.): appeals presented against several Venetian City Councils, in the name and on behalf of various members and supporters;

  • Italian Telecom: successful outcome of the 2nd level court case against Telecom. Appeal heard by the Telecommunications Ombudsman in Naples;

  • Impounding of Vehicles (Fermo Auto): appeals presented to the Provincial Ombudsman and to the Tax Commission in Padua. Impounding ruled invalid;

  • Tax on Garbage (A.R.S.U.): successful outcome of the appeal against Padua City Council. Case against Treviso City Council currently being prepared.

N.B. Remember … if we are to bring about efficient and honest institutions, the real issue we should be examining is personal involvement. That's right. We each individually have the responsibility to get involved and to help make sure public services change for the better.

While it may be possible to begin a legal battle for less than €1000, it does take more resources than we have available to keep it going. Our bank account is not large.
We urgently need the support of individuals, foundations and businesses in order to increase our Legal Battles Fund. Donations to the Fund may be made either by Cash, Cheque, Postal Order or by Bank Transfer directly into the Institute's account:

  • Cash:
    Do not send cash by Post, but come and meet us personally at our Headquarters Office in Padua (VENICES) Northern Italy - please call us beforehand on 049 750480 / 049 9900609.

  • Cheque/Postal Order - always give a clear reference (i.e. write your name and address on the back of it) unless you wish to keep your support anonymous:
    - if in Sterling make it payable to "Venezie Institute".
    - if in Euros make it payable to "Confederazione Veneziana".

  • Bank Transfer -
    - if in Sterling:
    Account name: Venezie Institute
    Lloyds TSB Bank plc
    Kensington High Street branch
    BIC no: LOYDGB21025
    IBAN no: GB94 LOYD 3094 6502 4549 74

    - if in Euros:
    Account name: Confederazione Veneziana
    Banca del CentroVeneto
    Bresseo di Teolo branch
    BIC no: ICRAITR1GE5
    IBAN no: IT19 P085 9062 9200 0008 1004 784

If you are outside the UK or Italy the preferred method for your donation would be by bank transfer. Please do not send us Cheques/Postal Orders if there are other procedures available as this will incur high banking fees to us.

Thank You for Your Support!
